What is a summer without a camping trip? Not very good. We took a few days to go camping in August before school started. The people in the picture are some of our friends. They make camping a lot of fun because they have two girls that love to take care of the kids so Emily and I aren't always chasing them. My shadow is also in the picture, I took the picture while walking and pointing back.
We went to Belle Isle State Park and its about 1/2 hour from our home. Its on the other side of the river and the park is as it's named.... an isle.
This is actually an interesting story, Andy usually tells us he didn't have fun when we ask him about a fun activity he just had. Well, we went on the canoe and Andy pouted most of the way. We saw blue herron, crab, and other wild life and he still didn't like it. When we got off he kept saying how fun it was and he wanted to go again. Needless to say, we did not go again.
We learned that in Virginia you're only allowed to ride in the back of a moving vehichle if you're older than 16.
We also went Geocaching at the park. It was like a treasure hunt. It was a lot of fun even though the car GPS was only so accurate. The best cache was a mailbox full of stuff (mostly junk) but it was a real treasure to the kids.
Did we mention that Owen also came with us. You just don't get many action shots when you're always being held.
The dad of this family ran out of the woods and scared the girls. There were REAL tears to be had. Andy wasn't scared, I don't know why not. There was a skunk in our camp the second night. It came around three times, fortunately no one was sprayed. I got the impression that it was fed by previous campers as it had little fear.
As any parent knows, nights are the worst with kids. It was probably the worst for Addie too. Yes, that's her pig-tail poking out of that sheet. She wasn't any happier then we were to go to bed.
She definitely didn't let it ruin her mornings though.
Looks like a great time. Andy sounds like Grace's nephew. Ha ha.
ReplyDeletecamping nights are the longest, but camping days are the shortest - how is that possible?
